HTC Dream: The First Mobile Phone based on Google’s Android Software

High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) has recently unveiled the name of the first mobile phone based on Google’s Android software. HTC has named it “Dream.” Though it is true that HTC Dream is going to be the first handset based on Google’s Android platform, reports have it that the company is going to face tough competition from Samsung very soon as Samsung is also thinking about launching a mobile phone based on Android software of Google.

HTC Dream is going to hit the market later this year with a screen of 5- inches long and 3- inches wide. Users can navigate though internet using internet controls located below the screen of the handsets.

PC World reported:

HTC's Google handset is just over 5-inches long and 3-inches wide, with a keypad underneath the screen that either slides out or swivels out. The aim of the keypad is for easy e-mail, note-taking and writing Web addresses.

The company officially remained mum on the handset.

"We cannot comment on this product," said Maggie Cheng, an HTC representative.

Android is the brain child of Google and its Open Handset Alliance, dedicated to make a open standards for mobile devices. Google, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and some other global handset manufactures are the member of Open Handset Alliance. The members of this consortium will gradually launch their own mobile sets based on Android.
