England vs Switzerland: David Beckham Opted out of Capello’s Primary Squad

England coach Fabio Capello has declared the primary squad for the Switzerland friendly, in which the notable exclusion is the former captain David Beckham who was eyeing to play his 100th match for England. England’s newly appointed coach has kept him out of the squad considering his lack of match practice over the last few months as it is now off season in Major League Soccer in America. However, Capello has not yet shut the door for David Beckham in future matches. This is going to the first match of England since their defeat to Croatia in the qualifying match EURO 2008. England failed to qualify for EURO 2008 tournament.

Los Angles Times reported:

"The reason that David is not in the squad is because he has not had any real match practice since playing in November," Capello said. "When I spoke with David on the phone yesterday, I advised him that he is still part of my plans and once he is playing regularly in America we will look closely at him again."

Beckham was practicing with Arsenal over the last few weeks ahead of the friendly match against Switzerland, which is set to be held at the Wembley stadium on 6 February. This is going to be the first match for Fabio Capello after he took over the England job.
