Nokia is Still Leading in Cell Phone Market

Nokia is the top name in the handset market. You know that the demand for mobile phone is increasing all the time and it will increase for some more years as millions of people still do not have a mobile phone set.

The latest figures are out and it seems that Nokia has 41.1% share. So, it is doing very strongly in the mobile phone market.

Now the serious question is who can compete Nokia and decrease its market share? The funny thing is that Samsung is in distant second position with just 15% market share. Motorola is holding on to the third position but LG is closing the gap.

Nokia to Launch Music Library in Australia

Nokia is going to launch an internet-based music library in Australia where 2 millions songs will be available to buy. There will be songs of local artists as well. One can directly download songs to their 3G mobile phone from the library for which they have to pay $1.70 for a track and $17 for an album. The songs can also be downloaded to their PCs.

Now, it is common a scene to see people enjoying their favorite track even on the go and iPhone technology replaced once popular walkman. Now, let us see who wins the race, Apple or Nokia?

Nokia N810: Internet tablet with WiMax

Nokia is one of the mobile phone companies that understood the potential of Internet services in mobile phones much earlier than others. Nokia N810 is an Internet Tablet that comes with WiMax facilities. You know that with WiMax, we can brose Internet very fast and remain wireless at the same time.

CNN wrote:

Once the capabilities of WiMax become better known, interest will increase as people use their devices and the long-range wireless connection in different ways, he said.

Nokia plans to make the new N810 available when Sprint launches its WiMax network, which operates under the Xohm brand. Staley estimated that Nokia would begin selling them around June. The device will retail at around the same price as the current version, or around $479, he said.

SO, it is good news for mobile phone users. The price is a bit but many people surely would not mind paying it if they can find good internet facility.

Nokia and Samsung to be Winner in the aftermath of Motorola Split, Says Analysts

Following the split of Motorola, the industry analysts are thinking that Nokia and Samsung have something up to grab. It is seen as a good chance for Nokia and Samsung to win some more market share in the absence of Motorola. The split of this global phone maker, Nokia and Samsung are expected to be the short time winner by the analysts. Motorola lost a significant amount of share over the last one year globally which led them go down from second to third place in the fourth quarter of last year. The wrong products the company had last year have been lethal for themselves. However, the industry analysts are still hopeful regarding Motorola to make a come back as the company still has strong presence in the emerging markets like China and India.

PC World reported:

"The short-term winners will be Nokia and Samsung, and maybe Sony Ericsson will be able to increase its market share as well," said Leif-Olof Wallin, research vice president at Gartner.

Ben Wood, director of research at CCS Insight, agreed. "With any change there is some disruption, and competitors can grab market share before it stabilizes," said Wood.

But in the longer term, Motorola can stage a comeback, according to Wood. "The bad news is that Motorola has the wrong products, the good news is that can be changed," he said Wednesday, after the announcement.

Also, a third major vendor in the market is needed to keep Nokia and Samsung in check. "It's needed to provide some balance with Nokia. A Nokia-Samsung duopoly isn't good for anyone," said Wood.

The share of Motorola has been decreased from 21.1 percent to 14.3 percent over the last one year. Well, it sill true that the company still has a good image in India and China and some other South Asian countries. However, it would be very difficult for Motorola to bring back their market share even in these countries if the company makes delay to come back in the market.

Nokia Siemens Received Network Expansion Orders in Indonesia

Nokia Siemens Networks has recently declared that they received a network expansion order from Hutchison CP Telecommunications Indonesia (HCPT). However, Nokia Siemens has not unveiled the price of the deal. Under this deal, Nokia Siemens will expand HCPT’s GSM/WCDMA network coverage across the islands of Java and Sumatra activating 2,800 base stations. Nokia Siemens will also roll out the GSM networks in Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Hong Kong based Hutchison possess 60 percent control of HCTP, while Charoen Pokphand from Thailand controls the remaining part of the network.

Reuters reported:

Hong Kong's Hutchison controls 60 percent of HCPT while Thailand's Charoen Pokphand holds the remaining 40 percent.

Nokia Siemens Networks, a joint venture of Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) and Siemens (SIEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research), said the deliveries would start next month and it would continue to work with HCPT on the carrier's major expansion plans over the next three years across all the islands.

Nokia Experienced Sales Growth Fell in Europe; but Boost up in Asia-Pacific in 2007

Nokia has recently said in a document filed with U.S. regulators that the company suffered a decreased growth rate in Europe last year. According to Nokia, their growth rate in Europe fell to 3 percent in 2007, which was 16 percent the previous year. Moreover, the company also experienced decreased growth in Middle East, Africa, North America and Latin America. Despite the slowed growth rate in these regions, the well-known manufacturers saw a solid boost in its sales in China and Asia Pacific.

Nokia said that the company experienced 34 percent growth in its sales in the Asia-Pacific region last year compared to 27 percent a year before. Similarly, Nokia’s sales volume in China was also increased by 34 percent in 2007, which was 29 in 2006. Nokia’s phone sales in emerging markets contributed 60 percent of its total sales volume in 2007, compared to 55 percent of contribution a year before. According to Nokia, 3.3 billion people use mobile phone in the world at the end of 2007. Just a year before, the amount was 2.7 billion, a 40 percent global growth.

So, it is almost clear that Nokia will try to focus more on the emerging markets like China in future, besides trying to recapture its market in other portion of the world.
