England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Michael Carrick out of England 23-man Squad

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been left out of England’s final 23-man squad for this week’s friendly match against Switzerland. The news came as a surprise to Carrick. He has found him out of the squad within 48 hours of his inclusion in the 3-man squad. Moreover, Carrick is only high profile player to have been out of the squad as Capello cut short his squad to 23. Michael Carrick can be hopeful with the assurance of Capello that the players failed to make it to the squad will be monitoring closely as he is working towards the competitive matches when England begins their world cup qualifying matches.

Telegraph reported:

Carrick, however, will not be pleased. He began yesterday as a top of the Premier League player and ended the day in second after his side's 1-1 draw against his former Spurs team at White Hart Lane and Arsenal's 3-1 win at Manchester City. Then, hours later, he discovered that he had lost his recall to the international team.

This is going to be the first match of England since their defeat to Croatia on the last qualifying match of European championship, which ended their hope to get the ticket of EURO 2008. So, England must try their best to regain their form and status with a victory over Switzerland. This is the first match of Fabio Capello in charge of England. So, there are pressures on Capello as well. So, I think, he should be given some independence in player selection as he knows it well that who would be effective with his tactics and plans.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Gabriel Agbonlahor Doubtful for Switzerland Match

Gabriel Agbonlahor, the young striker of Aston Villa has picked up a hamstring injury during Villa’s match against Fulham in a premier league match. Agbonlahor was one of the four players included in the final squad of England for the friendly match against Switzerland. It was the first time, the youngster made it to the England squad. He felt the injury just before the half time and could not come back after the break. Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has already admitted that he is almost out of the friendly match.

BBC reported:

"I would like him to join up with the squad but overall his chances of playing are pretty minimum," he said.

"He was fouled just before half-time and felt his hamstring," O'Neil added.

"It is quite sore at the moment and he went out just after the break to try and run it off and felt it so we didn't take any chances.

"Of course he is disappointed. It was a boost for him to be called up and had been thoroughly deserved.

"He may well still travel to meet up in the party we'll have to see, but as for playing that's unlikely I think."

No doubt, it is big blow for England. Earlier, two more important players: Emile Heskey and Ledley King were left out of the squad with injury. With the injury of Gabriel Agbonlahor, the striking position of England would be affected. Among the three other strikers, Wayne Rooney is now in good form. Newcastle striker Michael Owen is completely out of form, while Liverpool striker Peter Crouch is now up to the mark. So, England front line seems to have lack of balance. England fans now pray for Agbonlahor so that he can recover from his injury soon and appear for England against Switzerland.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Four Aston Villa Players into England Squad

England coach Fabio Capello has unveiled his final squad of 23 for the friendly match against Switzerland. Emile Heskey, the Wigan Striker has been out of squad with an injury. Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King has also been sidelined with an injury. However, Aston Villa is very happy as four Villa players have been included in the squad of 23 for the friendly to be held at the Wembley stadium.

The only Villa player left out of the final 23 was Curtis Davies, who has not played any match for England. However, Capello has assured the left out players that they are still part of his plan and their performance will be monitoring closely in future. So, Curtis Davies should not feel bad for the exclusion. The players of Aston Villa got into the final line up are on loan goal keeper Scott Carson, Gareth Barry, striker Gabby Agbonlahor and midfielder Ashley Young. Gabby Agbonlahor is now the only uncapped member of the England side. So, you can see what the mystery of Aston Villa behind their superb form in premier league this season.

David Beckham Seeing the End of the Road?

David Beckham issue is still in the headlines of the newspapers. His exclusion from the England squad for Switzerland friendly was one of the much-talked issues of world football in the last few days. England boss Fabio Capello was fully criticized for not including Beckham in the squad. It would have been his 100th match for England. So, public sentiment is also in favor of David Beckham, who left England for United States to join the preseason practice of his club L.A. Galaxy, after the news of his omission came out.

Recently, the report came out that Football Association used Beckham’s image and popularity to sell the tickets of a seemingly insignificant friendly match against an unrated opposition Switzerland. Even the sponsors of FA are also disappointed with the activities of FA ahead of the match.

Sunday Mirror reported:

The spokesman for a leading England sponsor said: "I think the FA have been left with red faces over this.

"They have sold a lot of tickets on the back of Beckham.

We were told by the FA, as were other sponsors, to get plans in place but we were hanging around all week waiting to discover if he was in or out.

"I think it's disappointing. I think he did enough for his country to be included."

Capello will not be bothered that his ruthless approach to selection may have caused embarrassment at Soho Square.

Well, I think, this would not be fair to think that Fabio Capello would never consider David Beckham in future. Capello has said that lack of match fitness was the reason behind the exclusion of David Beckham. I think, it would be turned into positive for Beckham. Suppose, he was included in the squad and given a chance in the match, at least as a substitute, as part of the token of tribute for what he has done for England, and he could not play well, then do you that it would have been better for his career. No, it would not. I think, David Beckham still has a lot to give for England and I will be happy to see Beckham in the next world cup. So, David Beckham should put everything back and try to prepare himself for the next matches of his club as well as for England. I think, Beckham will come back in England squad.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: 23-man England Squad

England manager Fabio Capello has cut short the 30-men squad to 23 for the upcoming friendly match against Switzerland. The match will be held at the Wembley Stadium on 6 February. Capello was criticized widely following the declaration of 30-man squad earlier with some notable omissions including former captain David Beckham, Tottenham Hotspur goal keeper Paul Robinson, Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell and West Ham United goal keeper Robert Green. David Beckham could play his 100th match for England, if he was included in the side.

However, there is no more surprise in the 23-man squad for the friendly match against Switzerland. Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King and Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey has been ruled out of the final line up due to injury. There was possibility that Heskey was going to be ruled out of the 23-man squad, however, King was played very well and he was almost certain to make it to the final line up. Fabio Capello also admitted that King had impressed him in the domestic matches. However, he did not speak anything about Emile Heskey.

England’s newly appointed coach made it clear that those who could not get into the final line up were still part of his plan. Capello has not declared the name of the captain who will lead England on Wednesday’s friendly. He will declare the captain on Tuesday, just a day before the match. May be he wants to see the progress of the players and the ability of leadership during these days. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is reportedly the most likely candidate for the role of England captain. Capello also said that he would not appoint a captain permanently until England begins their world cup qualifying matches in September. During this time, he wants to run an experiment giving the leadership to different players so as to find out the perfect man to appoint for the role permanently.

Aside from Ledley King, three more defenders were left out of the final squad for the friendly match. They are Nicky Shorey, Glenn Johnson and Curtis Davies. It would have been the debut match for Curtis Davies if he was included in the 23-man squad. With his exclusion, Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is the only new face in the squad. Capello has kept the striking line up unchanged except Heskey being ruled out with injury.

Three goal keepers have been kept with the question to whom the England goal keeping globes to be given in the friendly match against England. Portsmouth goal keeper David James is reportedly the most likely to stand in the England goal post. Among the midfielders, Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick and Middlesbrough midfielder Stewart Downing have failed to make it to the final line up.

I think, England squad seems to be balanced. I thought, Michael Carrick could have been kept in the 23-man squad for the first match of England under Fabio Capello. Anyway, it is Capello who will be responsible for any result of England side. So, he should be given the freedom to take the decision regarding the squad because he knows very well who will be effective with his plan and tactics. Now, let us see if England can appear with an imperious form and emerge victorious at the Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 spectators. So, do not miss the match as it is going to be an exciting match.

England 23-man squad:

Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Scott Carson (Liverpool on loan at Aston Villa), Chris Kirkland (Wigan Athletic)

Defenders: Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Matthew Upson (West Ham United), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham Hotspur), Owen Hargreaves (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), David Bentley (Blackburn Rovers)

Forwards: Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Michael Owen (Newcastle United), Wayne Rooney, (Manchester United), Peter Crouch (Liverpool)

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Emile Heskey to Miss the Friendly Match

Emile Heskey will not be able to take part in England’s friendly match against Switzerland at the Wembley stadium. The match will be held ion 6 February. The Wigan Athletic striker was sidelined during Wigan’s 1-0 victory over West Ham United as he picked up a nerve injury. Now, it is clear that Heskey has already been out of England’s first match under their new coach Fabio Capello.

AFP reported:

Capello is due to name his trimmed-down squad for the Wembley clash on Saturday night but Latics manager Steve Bruce confirmed Heskey would not be able to link up with the group.

Bruce said: "He's got a nerve problem, I think. It's just a continuation of the big fella being out for three or four months because he is getting niggles, pulls and strains all the time."

England coach has already named the 23-men squad for the friendly match against Switzerland. Earlier, he was named 30-men squad in which he kept Emile Heskey. So, it is a bad luck for the striker that he missed out the match. However, England has some more friendly matches in the coming months. So, Heskey should not put his head down. Rather, he should keep himself fit so that Capello can reconsider him in future.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Ian Rush Backs Steven Gerrard as England Captain

You already know that John Terry has been opted out of the England’s 30-men squad declared recently for the upcoming friendly match against Switzerland. That is why, the question of leadership comes in. The most likable contender for the role of England captain is Steven Gerrard, though nothing can be taken for sure. Gerrard is the captain of Liverpool and he was named vice captain by the former England coach, Steve McClaren.

Now, Ian Rugh, former Liverpool and Wales’s captain, has recently said that Gerrard should be given the role of England captain permanently, which he thinks would be good for England.

IC Wales reported:

“For me, Steven Gerrard has got be England captain,” said Rush.

“I think John Terry is a good captain and, if Fabio Capello stuck with him, then fair enough – but if you’re looking elsewhere then it’s got to be Gerrard.

“They are the only two stand-out candidates, Rio Ferdinand’s name has been suggested and he could be become captain, but I think Steven’s leadership for Liverpool is incredible – he has proven it at the top and grown in stature.

“He has become more disciplined and responsible now and after leading them to that fantastic European Cup triumph in Istanbul in 2005 he has grown even stronger.

“Steven is even more of a leader than he was say three years ago.”

There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard has been successful as a captain of Liverpool. He has also developed in his game and has been playing well with sheer consistency, which is one of the pre-requisite of becoming a captain. However, reports have it that Capello wants to give leadership to several players as part of his experiment in the friendly matches so as to decide who would lead England when world cup qualifying matches begin later this year.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Scott Carson Kept His Place in England Squad

Aston Villa goal keeper Scott Carson has been kept in the provisional squad of Fabio Capello, England coach, for the friendly match against Switzerland. Carson was fully criticized for his mistake that presented Croatia their first goal in the last match of qualifying round of EURO 2008 that England lost 2-3 and thus failed to win a place in EURO 2008. That was his debut match for England. So, you can realize what a disappointing start he had in his career. However, Carson seems to be very confident. He wants to look ahead leaving behind all the nightmares. He also said that that mistake helped him as a person as he has been playing well since then.

Sky Sports reported:

"That's the annoying thing about being a 'keeper in that people remember your mistakes. People say you've got to be mad to be a 'keeper and sometimes I agree with them!

"But the Croatia disappointment has really helped me as a person. I'm not one to dwell on mistakes. I put it to the back of my mind straight away and, since then, I think I've done well for Villa.

"The Villa fans have helped me through the incident and the lads have been superb too. They gave me a bit of banter which has been good and I don't mind taking some of that. It helped me along."

I think, Scott Carson is full of potential. It is good that he has already seen the other side of the coin, even before rising to stardom in hi career. Scott Carson has been playing very well this season for Aston Villa. So, I can see a long international career of Carson. Fabio Capello can rely on him.

English fans Unhappy with David Beckham’s Omission

You already know that David Beckham’s exclusion from the primary squad of England sparked a lot of criticism for Fabio Capello, as he refused to give Beckham his 100th cap. Not only English fans but also L.A. Galaxy fans are also unhappy with the exclusion of David Beckham in the line up.

Daily Star reported:

That decision has enraged England fans, who are demanding that Becks be awarded his 100th appearance.
Some claim it is sour grapes. Becks showed Capello up last year by helping Real Madrid win the Spanish league after the boss initially dropped him.
Student Sam McKinlay, 19, of Maidstone, Kent, fumed: “Beckham’s done a lot for the country. He should win his 100th cap.”
Insurance underwriter Billy Wilkins, 21, of Birmingham, said: “He’s a national hero. It will be a disgrace if he doesn’t get his 100th cap.”

David Beckham earlier played under Fabio Capello in Real Madrid before his move to L.A. Galaxy last season. To many, Capello played a big role behind Beckham’s move to America, as Beckham was sidelined for a number of matches before his coming back to field and helping Real Madrid to win the league title. However, I think, David Beckham will be given 100th soon. Beckham can take it as a challenge and who knows, Capello may want so as well.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Curtis Davies Included in England Squad

Curtis Davies is not a star player whom everybody knows about. He has not played any international match for England. The Aston Villa center defender has played three matches for England U 21. He is now playing in Aston Villa on a loan deal from West Bromwich Albion and Davies has appeared in 8 premier league matches so far for Aston Villa. So, you can see there is nothing special in his career.

No, you are not right at all. The 22 year old defender has attracted Aston Villa fans already for self-criticism. For say, in his first match for Aston Villa against Leicester City which Aston Villa lost, his performance was miserable that forced him to consider himself a pub team player. Do you think that there was any other way of self-analysis of one’s performance as honestly as he did?

Davies has recently been named in the provisional squad of Fabio Capello which came to him as a surprise. He also admitted honestly that he may not be in the 23-men final squad for the friendly match against Switzerland.

Guardian reported:

Seven years on from stacking shelves at Sainsbury's in Chingford, after being released by Wimbledon, Davies believes his own brand of self-criticism, following a miserable debut against Leicester City in September, has been the catalyst for his quick-fire promotion as a potential international partner for his idol Rio Ferdinand. "I have not heard from Carlsberg but I am available," said Davies, who has played only six Premier League games for Villa. "I don't regret saying the pub team thing. That has been the driving force."

Well, Fabio Capello has a pair of eyes to find out the potential players. He must have seen something special in him before including his name in the squad. I think, he has a long career ahead of him. Now, let us see if Fabio Capello keeps him in the 23-men final squad for the friendly match against Switzerland.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Steven Gerrard to Captain England

England’s newly appointed Coach Fabio Capello reportedly to give the captain’s armb and to Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard temporarily. Regular Captain John Terry failed to get into the 30-men initial squad of Capello, who will make it 23 after today’s premier league matches. Chelsea defender Terry is now in rehabilitation from his injury that forced him out of action for the last few weeks.

Now, it is almost clear that Terry has to prove his skill and fitness to get back his place in the squad. Fabio Capello has fame for his being ruthless regarding selection process and uncompromised about emotion. Beckham’s 100th cap was refused as Capello indicated his lack of match fitness as the reason behind his omission.

Goal.com reported:

27-year-old Gerrard was vice-captain for the Three Lions under ex-boss Steve McClaren, with John Terry the preferred choice.

But Capello's decision does not mean the Chelsea defender will not regain the armband at a later stage. The Italian has supposedly made clear to the players that Gerrard's appointment is for the time-being a one-off decision.

Well, Capello wants to experiment with different leaders to find out who is going to be appropriate to lead England. England will begin their mission of qualifying round of 2010 world cup later this year. So, it seems that Capello sees the friendly matches as an opportunity to finalize the squad before the start of world cup qualifying round matches. Now, let us see if Steven Gerrard can prove his leadership skill enough to get the armband permanently.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: John Terry Excluded from Initial Squad

Fabio Capello has kept England captain John Terry out of his 30-men primary squad for the Switzerland friendly. The match will be held at the Wembley Stadium on 6 February. John Terry has been injured for last few weeks and missed out some of the important matches of Chelsea. However, he has been reportedly in rehabilitation and is expected to come back in action soon. However, Capello did not want any injured player in his squad. The match against Switzerland is the first match for Capello in charge of England. Capello has not even talked to Terry about it, which brings out the typical character of Capello, who is reluctant to grow closer relationship with the players.

Times Online reported:

Terry would have liked to attend to cement his place in the England set-up as he continues his rehabilitation from a broken foot, but is philosophical about his treatment by a manager renowned for ignoring injured players and a general lack of sentiment.

Terry has had no contact with Capello other than a brief handshake in the directors’ box at Goodison Park last week during the Carling Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Everton, but remains hopeful of retaining the captaincy in the long term when he returns to fitness.

In the absence of John Terry, Capello is reportedly going to give the Captain’s armband to Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard. Capello will cut short his 30-men squad to 23 after today’s premier league matches. It is yet to see if he shows any more surprise in his 23-men squad. Earlier, Capello excluded former captain David Beckham, refusing his 100th cap for England national team.

England vs Switzerland Friendly 2008: Jermaine Defoe Left out of Capello’s Squad

Jermaine Defoe is now excited with his move to Portsmouth from Tottenham Hotspur in the winter transfer window. Defoe wants to play more first team football in order to keep his international career intact. The striker could make it to the first team of Tottenham Hotspur only for three times in premier league this season, which led Capello to keep him out of England squad. So, it is natural that he would become happy with his transfer to Portsmouth, where he now wants to play first team football in order to get back his place in the England team.

Telegraph reported:

However, Defoe was refreshingly honest in his assessment of his international prospects whilst he remained on the bench at Tottenham.

"When you are not playing football you can't expect to get in the England squad," he said.

"I totally understand. I just want to play football and score some goals.

"I want to score as many goals as possible this season and do well for Portsmouth."

England coach Fabio Capello has recently declared 30-men squad for the friendly match against England. David Beckham has been left out of the squad. Jermaine Defoe also failed to impress Capello to win a place in the squad of Switzerland match. Now, let us see if Jermaine Defoe can regain his place in the England side after playing some good football in Portsmouth. England will take on Switzerland at the Wembley Stadium on next week. English fans are eagerly waiting for the match.

David Beckham Received Supports from Premier League Managers After His Exclusion from the Switzerland Friendly

Though David Beckham has failed to impress Fabio Capello to win his 100th cap for England National Team, some of the premier league club managers have given their support for the former England captain. However, four premier league bosses have said that David Beckham deserved a place in the 30-men squad of England team for the friendly match against Switzerland. Martin O'Neill of Aston Villa, Harry Redknapp of Portsmouth, Steve Bruce of Wigan Athletic and Arsene Wenger of Arsenal have expressed that Capello should have been kept him in the squad and given him the 100th cap for England.

Goal.com reported:

"Most would say he deserves it," said Wigan boss Steve Bruce of a potential 100th cap…

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Aston Villa's Martin O'Neill agreed. "It would be great for him to get 100 caps, he deserves to," said the Ulsterman, who had five of his own squad called up by Capello……

"I thought this friendly would have been a great chance for David to get his 100th cap. He deserves it," said the Pompey boss….

And having had the chance to see Beckham at the Gunners' complex in Hertfordshire, Arsene Wenger believes it's only a matter of time before he rejoins the England fold. "I hope he does get it because he deserves it and he works extremely hard," said the Frenchman.

So, David Beckham can feel happy that he has received the support from some of the best coaches of EUROPE. Well, I also think that Daivd Beckham would be able to come back in England squad. Capello has left him out of the squad because of his being out of competitive football for last few months as it is the close season in Major League Soccer in America. I think, his exclusion could be turned out to be an inspiration for him to prove his wroth and achieve the palace in the England squad. I think, Capello might left something like that.

Stuart Pearce Appointed to Work with England National Team

England U 21 coach, Stuart Pearce, has been appointed as a backroom stuff of England’s senior team. He will also remain the coach of England U21. The 45 year old will be involved in planning of England team. He will start his newly found job from the England vs Switzerland match next week. Pearce has expressed his delight on the appointment which he has termed as a fantastic opportunity.

IC Wales reported:

He will be involved in planning ahead of all senior games and sit with the rest of the coaching staff in the England dugout, starting at Wembley against Switzerland next Wednesday.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity and a great education for me,” said Pearce.

England vs Switzerland match will be held at the Wembley Stadium on 6 February. With this match, England is going to regain their confidence lost though their defeat to Croatia in the last match of EURO 2008 qualifying round, with what ended their EURO 2008 mission as they failed to win the ticket of EURO 2008. It is now clear that Stuart Pearce is going to start his additional job in a crucial situation.

England vs Switzerland 2008: England Squad

England vs Switzerland match is now the center of all attention. This is just a friendly match and it would have been natural if there were not as much excitement available with the match as it is now. Actually, the match is very much important to both the teams, but for different reasons. Switzerland could see it as a practice match ahead of the EURO 2008 competition, while for England, the match has a significant value, despite the fact that England could not qualify for the EURO 2008 competition.

For England, it is going to be the first match under their new coach Fabio Capello, who took over from Steve McClaren, following England’s humiliating defeat to Croatia in the last match of qualifying round of EURO 2008, which ended their hope to book their place in the continental tournament of EUROPE. So, England needs to go through rehabilitation in order to regain their form.

England vs Switzerland friendly match will be held at the Wembley Stadium on 6 February. Fabio Capello has recently declared the 30-member England squad for the match. There are some notable decisions taken which sparked some criticisms as well.

The first of all, David Beckham has been left out of the side, considering his lack of match practice as it is now the off season in Major League Soccer in America. So, he practiced with the reserve teams of Arsenal in order to get his 100th cap for England though the upcoming friendly. However, he could not impress Capello, under whom Beckham played in Real Madrid. Capello had reported talked to David Beckham before taking the final decision. Capello cleared the reason of his exclusion from the squad and confirmed that Beckham is still part of his plan and will be considered in future when he will be playing for L.A. Galaxy.

Apart from Beckham issue, there are some other unexpected decisions taken by Capello. West Ham United Goal Keeper Robert Green has been overshadowed by Capello, which was unexpected to many as Green has been in good form this season. Capello included Wigan Athletic goal keeper Chris Kirkland in the squad that also sparked a question if he is better than Robert Green. Wigan Athletic has conceded many goals this season. The omission of Jermain Defoe was though well-received as he has not been in great form with Tottenham Hotspur this season. The exclusion of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand could make it to the squad because of their fitness.

There are two new faces in the squad. Curtis Davies is one of them. The inclusion of Curtis Davies, Aston Villa defender, also came as a surprise as he had first team appearances only five times with Aston Villa this season. Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King has played only three matches in premier league, but Capello thought he could be effective for the friendly match against Switzerland.

In the up front, Capello has included Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, who has been handed his first national team call up because of his impressive performance this season. Michael Owen was given a chance despite the fact that he has been out of action this season with Newcastle United. Wayne Rooney, Heskey, Crouch were not unexpected in the squad.

Well, at last I would like to say that though there are some unexpected calls and exclusions, I think, it is a balanced side. Fabio Capello is person who is now dealing with England team now. So, he may have his philosophy and technique regarding the squad. He must know who can be effective with his plan. So, let him go on with his plans and see if Capello can bring back the golden time of England in the field.

England vs Switzerland: Munich Tragedy Victims to be Honored

Ahead of the England vs Switzerland friendly match, England football federation is planning to show tribute to the victims of Munich tragedy, in which 23 people died including eight Manchester United players. The plane, bringing Manchester United players to home after playing a European Championship match, crashed while it was trying to take off for the third time at the Munich airport. England vs Manchester Untied match will be held at the Wembley Stadium on 6 February, the day to see 50th anniversary of the Munich tragedy. England and Switzerland players will have a minute silence before the match kicks off and players will come to play with black arm band, in order to show their tribute to the victims of Munich tragedy.

ESPN Soccernet reported:

Bevington said: ``We will be having a minute's silence in respect of Munich at the England v Switzerland game.

``We believe very strongly that this should be and will be respected and that there's a feeling across the whole country that a minute's silence is the best and most appropriate way to remember everybody who lost their lives in the tragedy.''

Bevington added: ``The players will be wearing black armbands and there will be film on both giant screens of the Busby Babes.

I think, it is the perfect way to pay the tribute to those who lost their lives in this accident. That was one of the most notable tragedies of football world. I also pray for the salvation of their departed soul.

England vs Switzerland: Who will Stand in England Goal Post?

England coach Fabio Capello has recently unveiled the primary squad ahead of the friendly match against Switzerland to be held at the Wembley Stadium on 6 February. However, it seems Capello is facing trouble in deciding over the no. 1 post of England team. There are a few names coming up when it comes to goal keeper of England. Capello has been criticized a lot over the matter so far. However, it is not yet confirmed who are going to stand on the goal of England.

Telegraph reported:

Paul Robinson has been sidelined after a series of errors. Aston Villa's Scott Carson is fast recovering from the stage fright that affected him at Wembley when called up for his first full cap in the crucial European Championship qualifier against Croatia.

My belief, when it comes to goalkeepers, is to go for the best man currently. That leaves the way clear for Capello to pick Portsmouth's David James for the friendly against Switzerland, though Green should also have been included.

Capello's decision to leave him out defies logic. It's almost as bad an omission as David Beckham not being in the squad, unless there is an unkown motive or some kind of injury problem that Green has.

England vs Switzerland: David Beckham Opted out of Capello’s Primary Squad

England coach Fabio Capello has declared the primary squad for the Switzerland friendly, in which the notable exclusion is the former captain David Beckham who was eyeing to play his 100th match for England. England’s newly appointed coach has kept him out of the squad considering his lack of match practice over the last few months as it is now off season in Major League Soccer in America. However, Capello has not yet shut the door for David Beckham in future matches. This is going to the first match of England since their defeat to Croatia in the qualifying match EURO 2008. England failed to qualify for EURO 2008 tournament.

Los Angles Times reported:

"The reason that David is not in the squad is because he has not had any real match practice since playing in November," Capello said. "When I spoke with David on the phone yesterday, I advised him that he is still part of my plans and once he is playing regularly in America we will look closely at him again."

Beckham was practicing with Arsenal over the last few weeks ahead of the friendly match against Switzerland, which is set to be held at the Wembley stadium on 6 February. This is going to be the first match for Fabio Capello after he took over the England job.
